General Use

No commercial use is permitted without prior written permission.
Unauthorized use may result in takedown requests and, if necessary, legal action.

Use of Gravestone Photographs and Archival Images

Gravestone Photographs

Gravestone Stories permits the use of cemetery and gravestone photographs for non-commercial educational purposes (classroom materials, academic research, genealogy, historical presentations) provided that:

  • Credit is given to Gravestone Stories (and the contributor, if named).
  • A link to the source page is included when used online.

All other uses—including publication, commercial projects, or reproduction in print or digital media—require written permission.

Archival & Family Images

Many portraits, historic photographs, and archival materials on this site come directly from private family collections and descendant contributions. These images are published online for the first time through Gravestone Stories and remain the property of the families or institutions that provided them.

Use of these images is not permitted without prior written permission from Gravestone Stories and, when applicable, the contributing family or institution.

Use of Written Content

Stories, biographies, historical interpretations, research findings, and tour content on this site are protected by copyright.

They may not be reused, republished, or adapted without permission.

Short quotations may be used for educational purposes if properly cited.

Contributors Clause

Guest authors and community contributors retain full copyright ownership of their original work.

By submitting material to Gravestone Stories, contributors grant David Heiby and Gravestone Stories a perpetual, non-exclusive license to publish and share their work on this website and associated projects.

Gravestone Stories’ copyright protection applies equally to contributors’ work, safeguarding it from unauthorized use elsewhere.
