On July 4th, take a guided walking tour of Alexandria, Virginia’s historic Wilkes Street Cemetery Complex, one of the most fascinating places in the United States. Hear the true stories of Alexandrians who lived in and helped shape our city and country, some of whose lives were sometimes stranger than fiction.
Tours run between 90- minutes and two hours in length and consist of walking about 2 miles through several of the thirteen individual cemeteries that make up the 82-acre historic complex where over 35,000 persons are buried. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.
If driving, use 1300 Wilkes Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, to enter the complex. Head to Hamilton and Wilkes Street. If you use the King Street Trolley, get off at West Street and walk south three blocks to the cemetery complex. Head to Hamilton and Wilkes, where the tour starts.
