Lecture by Madeline Feierstein – Civil War Military Prisons in Alexandria

The Alexandria Historical Society is pleased to announce its upcoming lecture on Civil War Military Prisons in Alexandria on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at The Lyceum, 201 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA. Starting at 7:00 p.m., local historian and expert guide Madeline Feierstein will present her research on the five military prisons of Alexandria during the Civil War.

This in-depth presentation will explore life within these prisons for both Confederate and Union prisoners, how their presence affected local residents, and the medical care provided to soldiers at hospitals such as Grosvenor Branch, which was the confiscated Lee-Fendall House during the Civil War. Attendees will hear firsthand accounts of imprisonment in Alexandria, from the beginning of the war through Reconstruction.
