On November 13, 1885, Alexandria’s Black Baptist community establishes a burial ground west of Hooff’s Run, near present-day Holland Lane. The cemetery provides a dedicated resting place for African American Alexandrians during an era when segregation extended even into death. Today, its surviving grounds are preserved as part of the Alexandria African American Heritage Park.
