The Enigmatic Burial of the Female Stranger

A veiled young woman, known only as the “Female Stranger,” died under mysterious circumstances and was buried in Alexandria. Her monument bears a haunting epitaph: “A heap of dust alone remains of thee—’tis all thou art and all the proud shall be.” Her identity remains unknown, making her grave one of the most visited and enigmatic in Alexandria.

In a vintage postcard dating back to around 1920, from the private collection of D. Heiby, the gravestone of the Female Stranger is prominently featured.
